BILL EVANS AT UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER
CHOREOGRAPHIC/TEACHING RESIDENCY

Rochester, New York
September 7 - 12, 2017 
Under the auspices of the Program of Dance and Movement, Mr. Evans will create a new work for U of R dance students, teach master classes in his dance technique and Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies and conduct a pedagogy workshop for the U of R Dance and Movement Faculty. The new work will be performed informally in the fall and formally in the Spurrier Studio Theatre in December, 2017.

BILL EVANS AT PROVIDENCE COLLEGE
CHOREOGRAPHY AND TEACHING
Providence, Rhode Island
September 15 – November18, 2017
Under the auspices of the Department of Theatre, Dance and Film, Mr. Evans will restage three sections from his iconic work Jukebox (choreographed for Repertory Dance Theatre in 1974) and teach master classes in vintage vernacular jazz and Evans Technique, for the Providence College Dance Company. Exceprts from Jukebox will be performed in the Blackfriars Dance Concert, November 17 and 7:30 and November 18 and 2 pm.

BILL EVANS AT BROWN UNIVERSITY
MASTER CLASSES
Providence, Rhode Island
Friday, September 22, 2017, 5 to 7 pm
Saturday, December 2, 2017, noon to 2 pm
Under the auspices of the Julie Adams Strandberg Fund for Dance at Brown, Mr. Evans will teach a master class in his Laban/Bartenieff-Based Dance Technique on Friday, September 22 and his unique style of blues tap on Saturday, December 2. Both classes will take place in the Ashamu Dance Studio, Ruth Simmons Quad. Free and open to the public.

BILL EVANS WITH REPERTORY DANCE THEATRE
CHOREOGRAPHIC, TEACHING AND PERFORMING RESIDENCY
Salt Lake City, Utah
October 16 – November 18, 2017
Public performances November 16 - 18
At the invitation of Linda Smith, artistic director, Mr. Evans will re-stage five choreographic works: Alternating Current, Crippled Up Blues, For Betty, Suite Benny and Tin-Tal. These works will be performed in the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center mainstage theatre on Wednesday, November 15 (children’s performances) and Thursday through Saturday, November 16 through 18 (evening public performances). In addition to the five company works, Mr. Evans will perform one of his signature tap/modern solos, Three Preludes, to music by George Gershwin. While in residence, Mr. Evans plans to teach RDT company class three days each week. Mr. Evans was a dancer and choreographer and one of three artistic coordinators for RDT from 1967 through 1974. He has returned often to choreograph (a total of 19 works), teach and/or perform over the years. He has served on RDT’s national advisory board for many years.

RHYTHM TAP WORKSHOP
BILL EVANS AND DEBORAH ROBERTSON

Salt Lake City, Utah
October 28, 2017, 9 am – 1 pm
Debby will teach beginning rhythm tap and Bill will teach both intermediate and advanced rhythm tap classes in this one-day workshop. Robertson was an Evans student at the University of Utah in the 70s, and the two have collaborated on choreography, performance and teaching several times in the past few years. This workshop is produced by RDT and Deborah Robertson.

PEDAGOGY AND TECHNIQUE WORKSHOP

November 4, 2017, 10 am – 1 pm
Mr. Evans will share fundamental principles and teaching strategies of his Laban/Bartenieff-Based Dance Technique and Pedagogy. The workshop is designed for established and emerging teachers of dance technique and for college dance majors and other pre-professional dancers with an interest in teaching.

FACULTY DANCE CONCERT AT DEAN COLLEGE

Mr. Evans and pianist Greg Woodsbie will perform Evans’ Blues for My Father in this annual School of Dance event in the Campus Center Mainstage Theatre.

BILL EVANS AT SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY
CHOREOGRAPHIC AND TEACHING RESIDENCY

Mr. Evans will choreograph a new rhythm tap work for Salem State dance majors and teach master classes in rhythm tap and Evans Technique.

BILL EVANS AT THE PALLADINO SCHOOL OF DANCE, DEAN COLLEGE
Franklin, Massachusetts
January 16 – April 27, 2018
Mr. Evans will teach semester-long courses in Laban Bartenieff Movement Studies, Dance Composition and Dance Pedagogy. This will be his fourth consecutive spring semester to serve as an artist in residence. (For two years, 2014 – 2016, he also taught three fall semester courses and functioned as a full-time faculty member.)

At the invitation of Rebecca Rice, noted choreographer and Cushing’s director of dance, Evans and Halquist will teach master classes in Evans Technique and Rhythm Tap for students in this historic college preparatory school.

BILL EVANS AND DON HALQUIST AT NORTHFIELD MOUNT HERMON SCHOOL

January 27, 2018
At the invitation of Angie Muzzy, Gretel Schatz and Ingrid Schatz, directors of dance at MacDuffie School, Mount Hermon School and Dance Studio of Orange, respectively, Evans and Halquist will teach master classes in Evans Technique and Rhythm Tap as part of a one-day intensive for students of the three institutions.

At the invitation of Vanessa Van Wormer, Jae Lee and Mark Tomasic, Department of Dance faculty members, Evans will teach master classes for students in Evans Technique, conduct a pedagogy workshop for dance faculty, and restage a choreographic work for the Department’s spring dance concert.

As part of AS220’s annual Modern Movements Dance Festival, Evans and Friends will celebrate his 78 th birthday. Friends are Amy Burns, Kristina Berger, Melody Gamba, Don Halquist and Greg Woodsbie. Special guests will be tap dancers from Elaine Colaneri’s Modern Jazz Dance Company and the Dean College School of Dance. Each show will include a wide variety of Evans’ modern dance and rhythm tap choreography and will conclude with Claire Porter’s In Gloves, performed by Evans and Halquist. Special feature will be a world premiere of Kairos and Chronos, composed and played by pianist Greg Woodsbie and danced by Kristina Berger and Bill Evans.

BILL EVANS CHOREOGRAPHY PERFORMED BY DEAN COLLEGE DANCE COMPANY

April 26 – 29, 2018
At the invitation of Jill Silverman, Dance Company director, Evans will create or reconstruct a rhythm tap piece to live music played by Greg Woodsbie for nine Dean College dance majors. The work will be part of the annual Dance Company production, which will be performed five times over those four days.

May 19 and 20, 2018
As part of The Dance Complex’s spring performance season, Evans and Friends will celebrate his 78 th birthday. Friends are Amy Burns, Kristina Berger, Melody Gamba, Don Halquist and Greg Woodsbie. Special guests will be tap dancers from the Dean College School of Dance and participants in a month-long creation/performance course that Evans will conduct at The Dance Complex. Each show will include a wide variety of Evans’ modern dance and rhythm tap choreography and will conclude with Claire Porter’s In Gloves, danced by Evans and Halquist. Special feature will be a new work, Kairos and Chronos, composed and played by pianist Greg Woodsbie and danced by Kristina Berger and Bill Evans.

BILL EVANS AT THE SCHOOL OF CONTEMPORARY DANCERS
Winnipeg, Massachusetts
May 22 - 31, 2018
At the invitation of Faye Thomson, co-director of the SCD Senior Professional Program, Evans will teach and choreograph in the annual May Intensive, as he has done for over two decades. He will offer a daily class for SCDSPP students and selected Winnipeg professional dancers, as well as a daily class in applied kinesiology. He will create a new work for some of the Senior Professional Program’s annual December shows. Jolene Bailie will reconstruct an Evans work for other students. Don Halquist will join Evans and Bailie for the last few days of the workshop and will host a final showing of the new and reconstructed works on Friday, June 1.
